Human beings receive life from blood and qi (xue qi 血 氣) and from the vital spirits (jing shen 精 神) in order to fulfill their natural destiny (xing ming 性 命).
…Will and intent (zhi yi 志 意), direct the vital spirits (jing shen 精 神), gather hun and po (souls), regulate hot and cold, and harmoniously blend (he 和) elation and anger. …
When will and intent are in harmony, then the vital spirits (jing shen 精 神) are concentrated and correct, hun and po are not dissipated, regret and anger (hui nu 悔 怒) do not arise, the five zang organs do not receive perverse (influences, xie 邪).
(Huangdi Neijing Lingshu chapter 47)
The 5 Spirits – the Hun, Shen, Yi, Po, Zhi and their associated 5 Zang organs – the Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lungs, Kidneys – together constitute an all-enfolding continuity of transformation and coherence. This can be discovered throughout the diverse holistic dimensions of the human experience, from the embodied to the immaterial.
We’ll observe how these concepts can open our understanding of illness and psycho-emotional suffering within the human condition, while simultaneously providing a means of transforming and transmuting shadow and pathology into light and wisdom.
We’ll take a deep dive into Animism and the Shamanic Path, working with Master Plants in the tradition of Amazonian shamanism, exploring the fertile, fruitful wisdom of the Maestros and Maestras.
In a cross-cultural integration of profound medicine wisdom traditions, we will discuss plants from the Amazonian, Chinese, and North American traditions, to invite and cultivate them as ancient allies on the path of healing and transformation.
Finally, we’ll bring our journey into experiential practice, with guided internal alchemical methods working with the Liù Zì Jué, the 6 Healing Sounds. We’ll bring together an integration of focused, honed intention, visualization, and sound/chanting. Cultivating ritual healing practices to re-seat the 5 Spirits, heal and harmonize the 5 Zang organs, and enact an alchemical process of transformation from states of illness, obstruction and pathology into healthy, harmonious, liberation.
